Indoor Plants and Lighting

When it’s about indoor plants,

they are very unlucky. Why? Because they have to be indoors most of their life and have to adjust with the lighting as similar to a “Cave”. Only a very few luck with them can have sufficient sunlight to survive, but even after that, they stay under the tall trees or bushes where they only get the sunlight in the morning or when it’s evening.

Normally what we see is, the household plants don’t get the necessary illumination they need and this is to not only in winter but in summer also. The trouble they face are, no illumination, no growth, and no flowering. So, that’s why this house hold plants need extra lighting to make up for the illumination lacks in conditions of a “Room-Cave”.

So, before you get eager to take any actions and save your plants, let me give you some suggestions. You will need to decide first if you want to setup an additional lighting for your plants or want to provide a whole lamp light lighting for them. If your choice is the first one, then a less costly and inexpensive lamplight will do the job. You won’t have to worry about their spectrum or anything.

This kind of lamps need to be set above the trees and plants. The distance should be 8-10” between the light and the plant. Tropical plants need lighting for at least 12-14 hours everyday if you want them to grow and develop at their fullest. They will develop and become flourish. But you need to divide the lighting hours into two parts. When you are turning on the lighting, please make sure it’s two hours before the daybreak. And then turn it off when the rest of the hours have passed after the nightfall.

When you are providing light to your plants, Another thing to keep in mind is specturm. Specturm of the illumination is a very important factor if you want your plants to grow properly. Simple lamplights doesn’t do very good to provide specturm of illumination. If the plants you have are not exposed to daylight regularly, then you will have to get a lamplight that provides special specturms for plants. When providing lights to the plants, it’s wise to use timer relays to switch between the lighting hours.

The basic idea is to provide your plants with proper lighting and then you can realize how fast they will grow and develop.

Lamps For Illumination:

Basically, there are 2 types of lamplights that you can use for providing lights to your plants.

  1. Filament Lamps.

  2. Gas-discharge Lamps.

filament lamps are usually halogen and incandescent and they can be plugged into the wall outlets directly. But the gas discharge lamps are a bit different. They need some special starting equipment to function and these equipments are called ballast. In spite of some of these gas discharge lamps look exactly the same as incandescentlamps, they can’t be directly plugged into a wall outlet. There are many “Online Home & Garden Shops” where you can find the exact instructions and plants very easily. So, if you are a plant lover, get yourself started.
